2019 Camp Shriver

Apr 2nd, 2019 - Aug 9th, 2019

Already have an account?

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the 2019 Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) Camp Shriver. Camp Shriver volunteers are active participants in the Camp experience, not supervisors. Volunteers are trained to participate alongside SONJ athletes for the duration of the Camp week. Being a volunteer is a not only a wonderful opportunity to make new friends while sharing a Camp experience with SONJ athletes, it is also a privilege and much more than “service hours.” Before completing this application, we ask that you think about why you want to volunteer at Camp Shriver. If your only motivation is to fulfill your school service requirement, Camp Shriver may not be the right fit for you.

If your interest reflects genuine enthusiasm about being active in a sport and fitness environment with Special Olympics New Jersey athletes, we encourage you to complete the application! The experiences of past volunteers have helped shape college and career paths. Many volunteers return each year and some even obtain paid Camp Shriver counselor positions after several years.

Camp Shriver spans five weeks and, each week, as many as 75 SONJ athletes participate. Volunteers are assigned to a group that rotates through different stations each day. The age and athletic ability level of each camper varies but they all look forward to Camp Shriver all year long. This is due, in large part, to volunteers’ commitment to making Camp Shriver inclusive, fun and engaging. We hope to see you there!
